Welcome back to week 4 of my weekly series—”What I’m Listening To”—where I plan to go through the top few songs, albums, or anything else that I’ve been listening to. I don’t plan to review the songs, as I am in no way a music expert, but more so plan to give my thoughts on how the songs make me feel and maybe what the song is about. Also, sorry in advance that I may get on random tangents, I’m trying to keep these posts as close to how I’d describe them in real life. This week, again, has mostly been older songs
Duck Sauce—Captain Duck
I don’t know what it is about this genre of music, but it is so pleasant to me. It’s upbeat so it gets my foot tapping and it uses a sample of an old song (“Wot” by Captain Sensible). Honestly, the sample is my favorite part, especially about a minute in when the instrumental gets quiet, and you here just the vocals as it leads into the buildup and drop. One of my favorite songs to be released as of late.
Duck Sauce—NRG (Skrillex, Kill The Noise, Milo & Otis Remix)
Simply put, this is a masterpiece. While Skrillex, Kill The Noise, Milo & Otis were remixing an already great song, they added their own artistic styles to make it just that much better. I’m most familiar with Skrillex’s music, and you can hear some of his (then) signature sounds, especially in the first drop. These are always welcomed features when listening to anything that Skrillex touches. This song is sure to get your body moving. My favorite part is the deep “NRG” as it leads into the first drop.
The Doors—Break on Through (To The Other Side)
The Doors are my all-time favorite band of any genre. I think my love for them began when I was a child playing “Tony Hawk’s Underground 2” video game, which had The Door’s song, “Break On Through (To The Other Side)” while you waited for the game to load. I even wrote a portion of my autobiography in (I think) second grade about my love for this song. Jim Morrison’s passion that is shown in this song paired with the amazing instruments playing behind his vocals is captivating. This album has the most plays on my record player. This is one of my favorite songs of all-time.
Mac Miller—Insomniak (ft. Rick Ross)
This mixtape was released before I was into Mac Miller’s music, and after he died I gave some of his older songs a listen. This song was one of the most notable songs for my personal music preferences. Although I don’t feel like the song itself fits the rest of the album, it feels like it was forced onto it for the feature. This is a song that I feel would go hard in a live setting, and it is truly a shame that we’ll never be able to witness Mac perform this live ever again.
The Eagles—Hotel California
One of the best rock songs of all-time. This is a song I like to listen to when I am trying to chill out and relax. Sometimes I like to listen to this song to fall asleep, as it is so soothing to listen to. The lyrics are great as well, but my favorite part is the guitar solo. Honestly, my ears are blessed every time they have the chance to listen to this song.
