Welcome back to week 5 of my weekly series—”What I’m Listening To”—where I plan to go through the top few songs, albums, or anything else that I’ve been listening to. I don’t plan to review the songs, as I am in no way a music expert, but more so plan to give my thoughts on how the songs make me feel and maybe what the song is about. Also, sorry in advance that I may get on random tangents, I’m trying to keep these posts as close to how I’d describe them in real life.
Party Favor—Fresh Laundry
The first track off of Party Favor’s new EP of the same name, with a long introduction before you get to the drop (about a minute and a half into the 2:46 song). While it is a great song, one I enjoy so much I put into this list, I feel that the intro/build is way too long, and would have rather it be shorter with a longer second half. Taking that point out of consideration, the second half’s instrumental is fantastic, one I can see being a hit when live shows return.
Doja Cat—Say So (ft. Nicki Minaj)
I try to refrain from putting any sort of “TikTok” song on my lists, even though there are some bangers that are popular on there, this version is so good. I’m honestly a Nicki Minaj fan and try to give every song of hers a chance before I decide to like it, or dislike it, and this song is a definite banger. Nicki always comes out of the gate with strong lyricism, and this song is no exception. Like she says in the song, “every time [she] takes a break, the game so boring.” I honestly find this to be somewhat true, she’s one of those artists that I try to find on a song when a new album from Drake, Lil Wayne, etc. Doja’s voice is also a wonderful feature of the song, and I was honestly surprised at how well her verse was (previously, I had only heard the chorus, I was unaware of her rapping skills).

Wiz Khalifa—High Today (ft. Logic)
Honestly, this was a nice turn of style from how I know both of these artist’s usual style of music. While we’ve been introduced to both artist’s singing before, it’s not what you’d think of when you read just the song title. Logic’s singing voice has improved a lot since I’ve been listening to him. I feel that his verse was the better of the two, and that’s not to take away from Wiz’s verse which was awesome in itself. The entire song is a vibe and a song I could find myself listening to when I’m trying to relax.
Tyga & Megan Thee Stallion—Freak
Regardless of what you think about either of these artists, you have to admit they make trending music consistently, especially, recently, Megan who has had many trending songs this year alone. While I’ve never been to a club, what I know from movies is that this song would definitely be played to get the ladies going wild. Definitely a party song, and a great song to listen to when doing chores or other housework. It has a great beat, with lyrics to be desired for (as is the case with most popular songs). The Too $hort sample was well appreciated, especially with his signature adlib.
Drake—Chicago Freestyle (ft. Giveon)
Honestly, I haven’t been that impressed with the last few Drake releases. I don’t think I’ve really been that hyped for a Drake release since 2016’s “Views” album. This song, however, is a great song. It has decent lyrics and a great beat. I love the part where he pays homage to Eminem’s “Superman” song. The second verse is the better of the two, in my opinion. I would have preferred for the song to have another verse, but that’s the case with most songs from the last few years.
